16 Jul Beer tasting at the Cambridge Brewhouse – July 2013 – review
Designer Beer and Smokies – A few days ago, another invitation for a beer tasting at the Cambridge Brewhouse popped up in my inbox. Why did I leave it so late to share this exciting beer tasting with you? You might have thought, that I have been topping up my tan. Nothing is truer!
The last few weeks we have had a lot of international visitors and families on our food walking tours. So I was very busy showing them the foodie side of Cambridge. What a joy it was! After the torrential rains, we finally had the sun. Typical British weather we go from one extreme to the other. The present temperatures are higher than in Turkey! We shouldn’t complain as in my home country on the other side of the pond it only has been heating up this week.
As many of you might know, the Cambridge Brewhouse is brewing their beer for the Cambridge Brewhouse and the Mill Pond pub on site. When James is brewing the place is filled with the fine smell of hops. It’s always great to catch up with him. Last week when we were passing by with the Cambridge Food Tour, I noticed he was busy brewing. So we decided to pop in and find out what he was making this time. It was Misty River. My American guest on the tour is a keen brewer himself. He always has two beers on the go! A pity I don’t live nearby to taste his beers.
The Cambridge Brewhouse introduces on a regular basis new beers. Since they opened their doors at the beginning of this year, they have had two beer tasting evenings so far. The first one was in the Locker room and we were given the full low-down on ‘what must be the best pork crackling’ in the UK, Mr Trotter’s. I like to go for local food, but this pork crackling has beaten any pork crackling I have had so far. They created this fantastic snack a year ago and some pretty impressive names are behind this British snack. It’s lovely and airy and very moreish. And guess what? They dished up a 7-course Mr Trotter’s fine dining meal in London the other day. There are rumours, they will do this in Cambridge soon too. I can’t wait for that!
There are more exciting things in the pipeline. The Cambridge Brewhouse will do cellar tours soon too. Just our piece of cake! They gave us a taster the other day and of course, there were some great beers to sample too.
Tonight, the 16 of July, there will be another Beer tasting session pairing beers with their home-smoked food. The beer tasting at the Cambridge Brewhouse is perfect for a night like tonight; be the first to taste James’ new ales, delicious home smoked snacks and find out more about these beers from the brewer himself, James. Enjoy!
