16 Nov Smoked Mackerel With A Kick recipe
More than a lunchtime snack – This snack ‘ Smoked mackerel with a kick’ is one of my favourites and stems from the time when I was still living in the Netherlands. We used to sell it from the fish counters over the weekends and it was one of the best sellers. I have adapted it slightly as in the Netherlands you make it with Indonesian sambal and ketchup. If you don’t feel like messing about in the kitchen too much you can use Hot Chili & Jalapeño relish instead.
I love smoked mackerel. It is not always easy to get it in Cambridge, apart from the fishmongers or at the market. However, smoked mackerel is very popular within the Polish community so, with a growing number of Polish delicatessen shops in Cambridge, you will always be able to get hold of it. I buy mine at the the Polish delicatessen shop on Chesterton Road. Although they sell a large variety of Polish food, they do sell Italian and Asian food too.
This snack is not only delicious, but it only takes 5 minutes to make! Perfect for a quick snack, but it works well as a starter or part of a buffet too.
