09 Jan e-Luminate Cambridge festival 2015
Discover Our Food Scene In A New Light! Join us on the opening evening of the e-Luminate Cambridge Festival for a walking food tour and see Cambridge through a different light. The Cambridge food scene is changing at a rapid pace and we’ll shed a new light on a city, you thought you knew so well. You can look forward to a 3-hour tasting tour of Cambridge discovering the latest food, fine local produce and artisan producers popping up en route. I’m afraid we cannot say more as we would like to keep a few surprises for you in stock.
Saying that…it’s hard to keep a secret when you have so many exciting foodies on board! We have lined up some of the best of Cambridge en route of this exciting light festival so you can soak up the amazing displays whilst sampling the best of Cambridge food. Does that sound your kind of thing? We only have 20 tickets for this sponsored tour so you’d better book early to avoid disappointment.
About the tour
We’ll kick off at one of the ‘new kids in town’ or actually the little sister of one of the best coffee houses in Cambridge, Hot Numbers opposite Fitzwilliams where we will have the best view of one of the iconic buildings in Cambridge. After a delicious cup of coffee with cake, it’s time for something stronger at the ancient cellars of a fine boutique hotel. Next stop is Kings Parade for Mediterranean food and gosh.. you’ve never seen Kings College ‘performing so well’.
One great thing about the local food scene is the local foodies, who create delicious food, but don’t have a shop in town. So for this occasion, we have not only thrown in some of their food, but you will get to meet them too. All accompanied with a nice shot of their native tipple to wash away their lovingly prepared food. Two of them even made headlines this year. Gourmandises and Harry Specters were winners of the Great Taste Awards. It’s not a secret, that I am a big fan of our Portuguese ladies and the lovely Stella will pop on en route with a tray of her delicious food too!
We’re almost getting to the end, but not quite yet. I am delighted, that one of my favourite colleges, St. John’s College is part of e-Luminate Cambridge too. We’ll snuggle up around a table across the road for Asian food. By now we have covered quite a few flavours of the local food scene so it’s time to retire in some posh seats for a glass of wine. No better place to go then to the only Private Members bar in town, the 12A Club where you can stay for the rest of the evening if you wish. Our e-Luminate Food Tour food tour is the perfect excuse to break up a dull week in February!
About the e-Luminate Cambridge Festival
The e-Luminate Cambridge Festival shows the city in a new Light. The 2015 Festival programme (11-15 February) includes a range of Light installations, family activities, talks and concerts. It’s a unique opportunity for residents and visitors to re-discover, and perhaps notice for the first time, the richness and diversity of our iconic buildings and public spaces. It was in 2012 when Co-Founders Alessandra Caggiano and Hugh Parnell came up with the idea of a light festival with a twist. The innovative concept relies on creating a dialogue between technologies, many of them invented and produced in Cambridge, and the Arts. This dialogue is centred on light as a fundamental resource to our life on the planet.
They started with a pilot event in 2013 which was a small but great success and gave them the confidence to continue. So, in February 2014 they held their second Festival, three times larger than the first one! They make this happen with the help of their wonderfully talented and enthusiastic e-Team members. Thanks to their growing base of support, the organisers hope to develop the Festival year after year to become an eagerly-awaited event in the Cambridge calendar.
