18 Sep New menu at Co No.15 in Cambridge review
Note: Co 15 is now closed.
Busy times at HQ of the Cambridge Food Tour with so many new places opening up. Of course, a great thing as we love the food scene to be booming. The more the better. Yesterday afternoon I was invited by Co at No.15 in Cherry Hinton to sample their new menu. About a year ago city’s most sustainable, eco-friendly and forward-thinking daytime eatery opened their doors. Their ethos is to be transparent in all of their practices, to source locally and organic wherever possible and to work with other independents, microbreweries, local coffee roasters and local farms to produce dishes and to offer artisan products. Co at 15 Highstreet in Cherry Hinton started off with a huge focus on healthier foods, superfoods, vegan, vegetarian, refined sugar-free and gluten-free options and there is no microwave or an Au Bain Marie insight, in a bid to keep their promise that all food will either be prepared fresh on site every morning or made to order. Co is not just a stunning cafe, but a grocery and bakery too. Their light and airy function room

The new menu is the brainchild of their new Vegan chef Emma, who hails from New Zealand. Although the focus is on Vegan way of preparing food, there are options to add protein too. Every course Emma presented was delicious and took everybody by surprise, which was quite interesting as there was only one Vegan guest amongst our group of 14. Did we miss the animal protein? No not at all! Everything you had was delicious and even better, healthy!
There is a lot of talk about 10 a day, clean eating and giving up sugar. Recently I have come across a lot of hardcore foodies, who are changing their diet. I am always intrigued what drives them. There are many reasons, but the two main ones keep coming back 1. food scandals and 2. feeling better. Don’t get me wrong, they don’t adopt the Vegan or Vegetarian lifestyle completely, they are flexis. So they make considered choices when to eat animal protein and where to shop. Life is all about balance, especially for foodies. We love food and if it is well prepared, then it doesn’t matter if it is a Carnivore, Vegan or Vegetarian meal. Do we need to give it a label? Why not enjoy the food whatever it is. Yesterday, was definitely a showcase that Vegan food can be very tasty. I think the images speak for themselves, don’t you agree?
